Storyline: In 1914, Michigan's best runner was Johnny Maulbetsch. In a football game against Cornell, Johnny had a bad day, taking the ball 14 times and getting knocked for a loss 14 times. Every time he was going to carry the ball, the quarterback would pat him on the back, tipping off the Cornell team.

Storyline: Dad Jannis is upset when he walks into Mike and Teddy's room at the Skyline Lodge and unexpectedly finds them unpacking Mike's ham radio gear. He wants them all to go outside and enjoy skiing before it gets too dark. Sally Jannis follows her father down the slope, but has difficulty seeing through the falling snow and she crashes into a ski lift tower unconscious.
