Story Featuring Godzilla

"Scene: New York's East River. Problem: Godzilla has risen berserk, sending the city into a fever of pandemonium."

Storyline

The Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Fantastic Four continue their battle with Godzilla. Godzilla tries to destroy the Empire State Building but Thor is able to hold the other side of the building to stop Godzilla from knocking it over. As the battle between the super heroes and Godzilla wages, Rob Takiguchi runs out onto the deck of the Behemoth and pleads with Godzilla to leave. Godzilla obeys the one being that showed him any kindness and leaves the city to go into hibernation beneath the Atlantic Ocean.

When Godzilla threatens to destroy the Empire State Building, The Thing mentions King Kong being his favorite film and states "Whatever happened to lovable monsters like Kong anyway?" Spider-Man makes a brief cameo at the end taking a photo of Godzilla as he leaves the city. Marvel had planned another story where Godzilla would face a character called The Dragon Lord, but because the license had expired, they altered the character and reworked the story publishing it in Marvel Spotlight (Marvel, 1979 series) #5 (March 1980). Marvel would bring Godzilla back in Iron Man (Marvel, 1968 series) #193 (April 1985). Because the rights had long lapsed, they would completely change the character's look and not mention him by name. Dr. Takiguchi would return in The Uncanny X-Men (Marvel, 1981 series) #506 (April 2009).
