Storyline: Father Walsh is finding life in China very difficult. The food is almost inedible and bubonic plague and cholera break out regularly. He often comes down with malaria or fever. Civil war breaks out and biplanes attack the city with machine guns and bombs. Roving gangs of bandits attack the village and hundreds of Chinese are massacred or taken for ransom. Father Walsh is taken prisoner for seven days.

Storyline: Just as Chuck and the townsfolk are trying to hold back the flames from engulfing the newspaper building, Judd quickly arrives with the volunteer fire engine pumper to extinguish the fire. Perhaps too quickly, thinks Chuck. With the newspaper about to fold due to a lack of funds, three full pages of ads arrive and inject new life into the paper.
