Our unofficial title, "Die FLUTE-ermaus", is a pun on the title of the operetta "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauss II, first performed in 1874. A similar gag, this time with Tom playing a trumpet, appears on the cover of Tom & Jerry Comics (Dell, 1949 Series) #161 (December 1957). https://www.comics.org/issue/13942/

So Near, and Yet So Forest

"These kids keep the yard so cluttered, I can't even find the morning paper!"

Storyline

In order to keep Fuzzy and Wuzzy from messing up his yard Barney maneuvers the kids into reluctantly joining the Junior Forester's Club, which would have them spending a great deal of time in the woods. But, as is so often the case, things have a way coming back to haunt poor Uncle Barney.

"Look, Wuff! The mailman has been here!"

Storyline

With two new pairs of mail-order skis, Wuff and Sammy have fun skiing down the sand dunes... until hungry Charlie pursues them with a crudely fashioned homemade ski set of his own.

For the sand-skiing scenes, artist Vivie Risto adds quite a bit more granular detail to the usual desert sands that he draws every month for the Wuff feature, in order to better sell the skiing.

The Bee Stings in Life Are Free

"I'm all set to have pancakes... and the honey jar's empty!"

Storyline

Tom tries to steal honey for his pancakes from a beehive... but gets lots of bee stings instead.
