Story Featuring Superman

"Creator of incredibly whacky crime plots..."

Storyline

The Prankster suggests to Sweetooth that he build a town made of candy and call it Candytown, but has plans to use bad candy to build it. He will then build a rival town made of good candy and call it Goodytown. On the opening day, Superman destroys Candytown, gathers up the bad ingredients and reboils them adding sugar. On catching up with The Prankster it is revealed that he himself was duped by one Wolfingham. Superman then returns him to jail, where he rejects and despises all candy.

Story Notes

The Wolfingham who gyped The Prankster out of $5,000, though unseen in this story, is no doubt Superman's old foe J. Wilbur Wolfingham, who first appeared in Superman #26 (February 1944).

Story Featuring Zatara

"Ever hear the saying that a bad penny is sure to turn up?"

Storyline

Years earlier, Heister Hess had buried the proceeds of a robbery under a piece of waste ground. After serving his prison sentence he goes to retrieve it, only to find that an estate of houses has been built over it. He hits upon a plan to sell a penny bank to the young man who lives in one of them. The penny bank explodes, setting fire to the house. Fortunately Zatara is passing and magically extinguishes the flames. A short time later another penny bank explodes, setting fire to another one of the houses. Zatara again saves the day and then traces the cause of the fires back to the robber.
