The X-Men have to battle the X-Sentinels to free their captured comrades. The space station is damaged in the fight, and Jean has to guide the Shuttle back to Earth herself knowing the strain will kill her.
First fastball special. If Polaris was an X-Sentinel, then she should have been in her original costume, not the newer Shi’ar version Eric the Red put her in.
