Secretaries, Stenographers, Typists
Storyline: Miss Layton tells Pamela what it's like to be a secretary. A secretary needs to be good at punctuation, vocabulary, grammar and shorthand. The law and medicine fields require knowledge of specialized terminology. You must be able to type 40-50 words per minute, receive phone calls and mail, answer routine correspondence, transcribe dictated material and record minutes at meetings. Other positions open to secretaries are filing clerk, switchboard operator, mimeographer and court reporter. Learning to use voice recorders, calculators and tabulators will offer more chance for advancement.
