Storyline

Woody has a plan to get his girlfriend Winny to get over her obsession with the singer Lucius La Luscious.

First comic book appearance of Winnie Woodpecker (spelled “Winny” in this story), in her ‘50s bobbysoxer outfit, as she appeared in the theatrical animated short “Real Gone Woody” (1954). Winnie would become Woody's "regular girlfriend" for the remainder of his comics career, and in later animation. "Lucius La Luscious" is a parody reference to Julius La Rosa, a popular singer of the period. Title from Carl Fallberg's notes.

The Chilling Origin and Zoo Captivity of Chilly Willy

"I'm sure glad you invited me up to visit you, Homer! I haven't been cold since I arrived here!"

Storyline

Chilly Willy comes up to the United States from the South Pole to visit Homer Pigeon. Over the course of their day, Chilly tells Homer his “origin story” (the reason why he is always so cold). After that, Chilly is mistaken for a “resident penguin” and thrown into a cold enclosure by an over-zealous zoo keeper.

This is the second comic book appearance of Chilly Willy, following his debut in the previous issue of Walter Lantz New Funnies. Chilly is nicely introduced to the comics audience in this sequel to his first appearance with the backstory of why, as a penguin, he is so averse to cold. As the run of New Funnies progresses, and Chilly Willy becomes a more popular presence in the Walter Lantz character stable, the shivering penguin will first share this feature with Homer Pigeon (with co-billing), then spin-off into his own series by #222, and ultimately assume the spot long occupied by Homer Pigeon.

The Lemonade Raid

Knothead and Splinter want to drink Woody's lemonade, and use a hose to do it.

Storyline

Andy Panda is the watchman at a museum. He and Charlie Chicken stop some art thieves after "The Smiling Lady", a valuable painting.

This story was remade as "Museum Mix-Up" for Huckleberry Hound (Dell, 1960 Series) #7 (November-December 1960) - which was reprinted in Huckleberry Hound (Western, 1962 Series) #32 (January 1968). Since Huckleberry Hound didn’t have a sidekick, as Andy Panda had Charlie Chicken, he is paired with an old security guard named “Charley”. …Coincidence? Title from Carl Fallberg's notes.

Umbrella Stand

Story Featuring Oswald the Rabbit

"What a week! I'm sure looking forward to a nice relaxing... Oof!"

Storyline

Oswald gets rid of a big, ugly umbrella stand given to him by his Aunt Agnes. Trouble is suddenly-rich Aunt Agnes is coming to visit, and the umbrella stand is now fifty feet below the surface of a lake.

Charlie's Trial Run

Story Featuring Andy Panda

"Charlie Chicken came rushing up to Andy Panda's house just as a big delivery truck drove away."

Storyline

Andy assembles his newly-arrived racing bike, but is called away before the task is completed. Charlie can't resist trying the bike on a steep hill, not knowing that the bike has hand-brakes, which Andy has not yet finished connecting.
